For the third time, the Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants (Cewep) is presenting the Ignis Award in Memory of Carsten Spohn. The application period for students, postgraduates, and young professionals in the European waste management sector commenced on 2nd February 2026 and will close on 4th May 2026.

Focus On Waste-to-Energy And Research Excellence

The award acknowledges excellence in research applicable to the field of waste management, with a particular focus on Waste-to-Energy (WtE), which involves incineration with energy recovery. This includes all topics relevant to WtE, such as energy recovery, climate impacts, and the recovery of residues. The submitted work can be part of a Bachelor, Master, or PhD thesis, or a relevant publication within a professional context.

Practical Experience And Professional Recognition

The winners will be offered a two-week traineeship at a participating European Waste-to-Energy plant. Furthermore, the abstracts of the winning works will be published on the Cewep website, and the winners will receive complimentary admission to the next Cewep Congress.
