Lausanne’s waste-to-energy plant Tridel SA treated as much waste in 2025 as it did the year before, yet it sold less heat, less electricity and closed the year with a fraction of its previous profit. The reason lies in a single month at the end of the year.
At the same time, the company went through the biggest change in its organisation since the plant was fired up in 2006. On 1 July 2025 the entire operating workforce of the City of Lausanne moved onto Tridel’s payroll, reshaping the cost base and shifting millions between line items in the accounts. A new director took charge on the same day.
Behind the headline figures, the report also reveals how Tridel is preparing for a Swiss rule that comes into force in 2028, why it stockpiled 3,000 tonnes of baled waste, and which new energy projects are moving from drawing board to construction site. Occupational accidents, meanwhile, fell from nine to one.
