  • The agreement highlights EVO’s commitment to regional identity and social responsibility over the long term.

The shareholders of Energieversorgung Offenbach (EVO), Stadtwerke Offenbach Holding (SOH) and MVV from Mannheim, Germany, have decided to extend their existing partnership significantly beyond its original scope. The consortium agreement, initially set to run until 2030 and signed in 2017, has now been prematurely prolonged until 31 December 2040.

The ambition of this cooperation lies in further strengthening EVO as an independent, economically successful entity, while securing the ongoing multimillion-euro investments in Offenbach’s infrastructure.

According to Offenbach’s Lord Mayor Felix Schwenke, who also chairs the SOH supervisory board, the close collaboration between SOH, EVO, and MVV has proven successful for all parties over the past 25 years. As a company with a 178-year tradition in Offenbach, EVO remains firmly rooted in the city and ensures a reliable supply of essential services.

The early renewal of this partnership aims to give EVO the necessary security to continue accelerating the energy transition: demand for electricity is expected to rise, and flexible, high-performance electricity grids will be needed to integrate climate-friendly energy from wind and solar sources.

MVV-CEO Gabriël Clemens highlights that the early extension demonstrates MVV’s long-term commitment to EVO and to robust, municipally anchored energy provision. The collaboration over recent years has shown the potential of joint efforts.

Looking ahead, the partnership with EVO is expected to further advance the regional energy transition in Offenbach, in cooperation with partners, local businesses, and residents.

Strengthening Municipal Utilities and Regional Identity

Peter Walther, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Offenbach Holding GmbH, considers the early extension of the consortium agreement a positive sign for Offenbach’s municipal utilities sector. According to Walther, Stadtwerke Offenbach, EVO, and MVV have built a relationship founded on trust and proven economic success in recent years.

Both EVO and Stadtwerke Offenbach, as municipal enterprises, are firmly embedded in the region. The objective in the coming years is to consolidate EVO’s position as a reliable provider and service partner for electricity, gas, district heating, and wastewater, and to further strengthen its market standing. In this way, the partners contribute to Offenbach’s sustainable economic, ecological, and social development.

EVO is currently progressing the energy transition across multiple domains in accordance with statutory requirements. Several hundred million euros are earmarked for coal phase-out and the expansion of sustainable heat generation in the coming years. These funds will also be allocated to strengthening the high-voltage grid in Offenbach city and district. EVO-CEO Christoph Meier regards the agreement’s extension as an important signal in view of these substantial investments.

According to Meier, EVO will remain an independent, municipal driving force in the region, creating added value and continuing to demonstrate social responsibility. The course set is ambitious, requiring the full support of the shareholders. The new arrangement provides EVO with reliable planning conditions for the years ahead.

Long-Term Corporate Commitment and Regional Focus

In 2000, the city of Offenbach transferred 50.1 per cent of EVO’s voting shares to MVV, while SOH retained a 49.9 per cent stake. The consortium agreement ensures that core functions of EVO remain headquartered in Offenbach.

In addition to safeguarding and strengthening the company’s earning power, the shareholders continually emphasise EVO’s regional identity as a fundamental principle of their cooperation. The recent extension of the agreement until the end of 2040 is intended to maintain these essential objectives in the long term.
