Geneva’s Les Cheneviers waste-to-energy plant, operated by Services Industriels de Genève (SIG), has been a cornerstone of the canton’s waste management and district heating infrastructure since 1993.

Located beside the Rhône river in Aire-la-Ville, the facility converts non-recyclable waste into electricity and thermal energy for thousands of Geneva households. A next-generation replacement facility, Cheneviers IV, is currently under construction and scheduled to commence operations in 2029.
