Only 8.9 per cent of the energy Klingele burns in its boilers is fossil. The rest is biomass, biogas and, to a growing extent, fuel made from waste.
Klingele’s 2025 sustainability report puts figures on an energy set-up that has been built up over two decades: two power plants firing refuse-derived and solid recovered fuel, biomass boilers on two continents, hydropower in Brazil and a wind turbine in Weener. Together they produced 252.7 GWh of electricity last year and covered more than half of what the mills consume.
The report also shows what happens to the 234,000 tonnes of residues the plants generate, how much of the group’s Scope 1 emissions are biogenic and what the Science Based Targets initiative signed off in October 2025.
