Enfinium Signs Long-Term Waste Fuel Deal with Remondis

Enfinium has locked in a new fuel supply deal with Remondis that will double in volume from 2027, feeding three West Yorkshire plants that already handle up to 1.86 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste a year. Both sides are hinting this is only the beginning. What the partnership could mean next.

Key Takeaways

  • Enfinium has signed a fuel supply deal with Remondis UK for three West Yorkshire plants.
  • Remondis will supply 10,000 tonnes of residual waste a year, doubling to 20,000 from 2027.
  • Ferrybridge 1 and 2 and Skelton Grange handle up to 1.86m tonnes of unrecyclable waste, powering 440,000 homes.
  • Enfinium’s UK fleet diverts 2.7m tonnes from landfill yearly, powering some 600,000 homes.
  • Both sides call the deal a starting point for further cooperation.

UK Waste-to-Energy operator Enfinium has signed a fuel supply agreement with waste management company Remondis. The agreement covers three Enfinium facilities in West Yorkshire, the company announced.

Remondis UK will supply 10,000 tonnes of residual waste each year to the Ferrybridge 1 and 2 and Skelton Grange. This will rise to 20,000 tonnes annually from 2027. Together the three plants process up to 1.86 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste a year. As a result, they have the potential to power around 440,000 homes.

Landfill Diversion Across the UK fleet

The agreement strengthens Enfinium’s long-term fuel supply, supporting the management of unrecyclable waste. It also avoids landfill and enables continued electricity generation. Across its UK fleet, Enfinium diverts around 2.7 million tonnes of waste from landfill each year. Consequently, this generates enough electricity to power approximately 600,000 homes.

Remondis is headquartered in Germany and operates across Europe and internationally in recycling, waste management services and water.

Both companies described the agreement as the start of a relationship that could be extended. “This agreement with Remondis marks the beginning of an exciting new partnership between two major players in the European waste management sector,” said Wayne Robertson, Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer of Enfinium. “Our state-of-the-art energy from waste facilities provide a reliable outlet for residual waste and we look forward to building on this agreement and exploring further opportunities to work together in the future.”

Dr Valentin Sommer and David Coulter, Directors of Remondis Ltd, said the company is committed to delivering reliable, sustainable solutions for managing residual waste. They are also committed to ensuring that material which cannot be recycled is put to the best possible use. They added: “Enfinium’s high-quality facilities and strong operational track record make them an excellent partner, and we look forward to building on this agreement and exploring further opportunities to work together.”
