German energy supplier Energieversorgung Offenbach AG (Evo) is mourning its former technical director Günther Weiß. The long-serving board member died on Saturday in a mountain accident in Tyrol.
Weiß was a member of the Evo executive board from 2015 until March 2026. He had held various management roles at the company since 2006. During that time he shaped the technical development of the regional utility and contributed to the secure and sustainable energy supply of the region.
Responsibility for Power Plants and Networks
His remit covered the power plants, the electricity and heating networks, environmental protection, occupational safety and the expansion of renewable energies.
Under his leadership the Waste-to-Energy plant was modernised and extended by a facility for sewage sludge recovery. He also advanced the expansion of wind and solar energy projects and the further development of the district heating supply.
Foundations for the Energy Transition
His work created the basis for the transformation of the energy supply. This includes the decarbonisation of the heat supply as well as the modernisation of the high-voltage network for the city and district of Offenbach.
Evo’s CEO Christoph Meier paid tribute to the achievements of the deceased: “With Günther Weiß, Evo loses a figure who decisively shaped our company over many years. He drove forward the energy transition at Evo with professional competence, foresight and great powers of persuasion.”
According to Meier, the way in which Weiß worked mattered even more: with expertise and a strong sense of responsibility for the company, its employees, the city of Offenbach and the entire region. His advice was valued, his word carried weight and his actions were marked by reliability, Meier said. His commitment to a secure, sustainable and future-proof energy supply would remain permanently linked to the development of the company.
Meier added that the thoughts of the company were with the family and relatives of Günther Weiß.
