Lakeside Energy from Waste at Colnbrook near Slough, next to the M25 and Heathrow Airport, is operated by Lakeside Energy from Waste Ltd, a joint venture of Viridor and Grundon Waste Management.

The £160 million moving-grate plant was built by Itochu/Takuma, delivered in January 2010 and officially opened on 27 October 2010. It is permitted for 468,280 tonnes a year, processes around 440,000 tonnes of residual waste from local authorities and businesses and generates about 306 GWh of electricity a year from a 37 MWe design output. Because the site lies in the path of Heathrow’s proposed third runway, relocation plans were submitted to Slough Borough Council in 2019 and withdrawn in 2020 when the runway was shelved. The renewed expansion plans have reopened the question.
