The KVA Trimmis near Chur is operated by Gevag, a public-law institution owned by municipalities of Canton Graubünden. It treats almost all of the canton’s combustible waste from a catchment of about 170,000 residents. The two-line plant, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025, generates electricity and supplies district heat to Chur via Fernwärme Chur AG. In addition, it provides process steam through a long-distance steam pipeline to industrial customers in Landquart, including the LandQart paper mill and Emmi.
