The Zweckverband Entsorgung Zimmerberg (EZI) is a public-law association of nine municipalities on the left shore of Lake Zurich that owns and operates the KVA Horgen, Switzerland’s smallest Waste-to-eEnergy plant with a permitted capacity of 35,000 t/a.
The single-line plant supplies district heat to the town of Horgen and electricity to the local grid. After years of threatened closure, the canton of Zurich placed the site permanently in its capacity planning in 2024.
