Kanadevia Inova AG is the Zurich-based Waste-to-Energy technology group formerly known as Hitachi Zosen Inova and, before that, Von Roll Inova.

A subsidiary of Japan’s Kanadevia Corporation, it designs and builds grate-fired plants across Europe, the Middle East, Australia and North America, and is increasingly running them as well.

In the UK it operates Westfield in Fife (240,000 t/a) under a 25-year contract alongside Slough and Earls Gate, and since March 2026 it also runs the Dublin plant. Its parent is preparing a merger with Nippon Steel Engineering for April 2027.

Key Takeaways

  • Swiss stock corporation with roots in L. von Roll (1933), renamed from Hitachi Zosen Inova to Kanadevia Inova on 1 October 2024 after its Japanese parent Hitachi Zosen Corporation became Kanadevia Corporation.
  • Wholly owned by Kanadevia Corporation, Osaka, which bought the business out of the insolvency of Austrian Energy & Environment in December 2010.
  • EPC contractor for a string of new European plants: current EPC projects include Tilbury (350,000 t/a, 2028), Tees Valley (450,000 t/a, 2030), Medworth and the Protos carbon capture plant (handover mid-2029).
  • Operator of four European WtE plants under long-term O&M contracts: Westfield (Fife, 240,000 t/a, handed over 1 July 2025), Slough Multifuel, Earls Gate (Grangemouth) and, since 13 March 2026, Dublin (600,000 t/a, 38-year contract).
  • Shift to owning and operating assets: the company has built an asset-management arm through the acquisition of Iona Capital (January 2025) and holds stakes in the Dubai and East Rockingham WtE projects, while its parent agreed in February 2026 to explore a merger with Nippon Steel Engineering.
